Bartec Tech Tips For Copying Sensor ID's
19 May 2026
A TPMS warning light after a sensor replacement is often caused by one missed step: the sensor ID. When replacing a TPMS sensor, the sensor ID is what the vehicle recognises. If the ID is incorrect or not handled properly, the vehicle may not detect the sensor, even if it is new and working.
Certain vehicles also apply specific rules to sensor IDs. If these are not followed, the vehicle may ignore the sensor. Many vehicles do not automatically learn new sensor IDs. In these cases, the original sensor ID needs to be copied into the replacement sensor.
The correct process is shown on the tool in the "Copy Sensor IDs" Menu in "Programme Sensors".
- Read the original sensor
- Press Enter
- Program the replacement sensor using the copied ID
- Fit the new sensor and complete the service
When the ID is copied correctly, many vehicles will not require a relearn. Always select the correct vehicle and follow the on‑screen instructions shown on your Bartec Tool.
