Tesla TPMS Explained Tech Tip
15 June 2026
Tesla TPMS works differently to most other vehicles. Tesla vehicles use Bluetooth TPMS sensors, not traditional radio-frequency sensors. This means the vehicle communicates directly with the sensor and identifies it automatically.
Because of this, Tesla does not use stored sensor IDs or manual relearn procedures. When the correct Bluetooth sensor is fitted, the vehicle learns it on its own during normal driving. For Tesla vehicles, a Bluetooth-compatible sensor is required. Standard TPMS sensors will not be recognised.
Rite-Sensor Blue is designed specifically for this purpose. It is compatible with Tesla TPMS systems and supports the automatic learning process used by the vehicle. No manual programming or relearn is required when the correct sensor is installed. If a non-Bluetooth sensor is fitted, or the wrong sensor type is used, the vehicle will not detect it and the warning light will remain on.
